Decorex 2013 Seminar Programme – Khalique & Pooley
Today at Decorex I had the pleasure to attend one of the International Seminars being held at the theather conference area. At 14:45 Fameed Khalique and Katharine Pooley started an amazing presentation about international trends. Despiste Fameed’s “nervosism” (as he said as he opened the conference) the presentation was fluid and mesmerazing.
They both talked about diferent areas of design, Fameed was more detailed on materials and new techniques and Katharine about how to use this kind of materials in interiors and where to spot them. But both of them agreed on the new trends that involve noble materials, products with strong heritage, metal textures, subtle luxury and very interesting new interpretations of traditional techniques.
By that they wanted to challenge designers “not to go to supplliers for quick answers but with exclusive needs that might bring novelties to the world of interiors”. A new product from Fameed was created combining the need of one Katharine’s hotel project and the discussion between both of them became a beautifull wall finish. We dont always need something new, sometimes that material or product that we are so tired of seeing or using can and needs to be rethinked to something absolutly new and personalised. The combinations of fabrics with cristals or the use of marble to simulate drapes where some of the examples showned by them. As Katharine said the first think she asks her supplliers and team is “show me something new”!
And we have shown it! Katharina is the proud owner of one of KOKET‘s beautiful sideboards: Camilia.
Designed passionately and exquisitely by the incomparable talents powering KOKET, the Camilia was created to grace the most regal of dining rooms with its elegance and splendor. Inspired by the aristocratic palaces of the Alexandrian pashas of Egypt, the mother of pearl Camilia is crowned by artisan hand-carved peacock, meticulously engraved and delicately finished in gold leaf.
