Fashion on Gender Equality – Emma Watson’s He for She Campaign
Emma Watson launched her HeForShe campaign less than a year ago, and now she’s shining a light on ‘racism’ and ‘sexism’ in the fashion industry with a new video urging for gender equality.
As a UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador, Watson is a vocal supporter of HeForShe, the UN solidarity movement for gender equality. Join her, alongside fashion designers Stella McCartney, Jonathan Saunders, Erdem Moralioglu and Bella Freud, as they share their thoughts on equal rights for all.

Emma Watson is still talking about sexism and its impact on women’s daily lives. In a new video, Emma speaks out about issues within the fashion industry, inviting several famous designers to share their thoughts on the topic as well.

“I want to get this conversation, this dialogue happening specifically within the fashion industry to ask the leading voices about gender equality,” Emma says in the video.

While news of models and insiders applying pressure for racial fairness has become more frequent, Watson has been stepping up to champion the cause for gender equality. The HeForShe initiative that she launched last year petitions both men and women to take action.
The organization seeks “gender equality that brings together one half of humanity in support of the other half of humanity, for the benefit of all.”

The UN Women Global Goodwill Ambassador adds that while there have been some recent strides toward addressing specific issues within the industry, there is still plenty of work to do. “I have seen some very positive steps toward equality in the industry. But I think there’s a lot of racism, there’s a lot of sexism,” she says. “I’d really, really love to see a more diverse representation of women and men in any way that makes them feel empowered.”

“I think the fashion industry has a very big role to play. It has a huge voice and the voice can be adapted. We need to give a better message to women of all ages, all sizes and all nationalities. We need to allow women to feel comfortable in who they are,” McCartney says in response to the latter.

At the end of the video she asks viewers to react to her series of questions—an interactive call-to-action. We for one are so glad that Emma is speaking out about the equality for women! The actress has been an advocate for gender equality for several years now, and has used her platform to raise awareness on the issue. We are all for empowering women fighting for our rights.

“I have realized that fighting for women’s rights has too often become synonymous with man-hating. If there is one thing I know for certain, it is that this has to stop.” Emma Watson
