“As I reflect back as a young adult, I see my passion for writing began at a young age although I had no intentions of becoming a writer. My flair for the dramatic had me leaning towards something more prominent and charismatic, like an actress or lawyer. As a source of my creative expression however, I turned to writing and art most often than not.
As the daughter of a single mother who owned her own business, I spent a lot of my time entertaining myself and my younger brother in her office space. Originally on a typewriter, I began a company newspaper that eventually morphed into a short story series once I was introduced to a computer and its colorful graphics. Although I didn’t know it at the time, these were my writer introductions and initiations.
It wasn’t until I hit high school that I realized my hobby had merit. My introduction to poetry unveiled a new realm of literary possibilities and expressions that had the appeal of a new frontier. Poetry knows no bounds; it has no rules. The rhythm and flow of words is a game, and the poet knows the foundation. Poetry is freedom and restriction. An opening and closing. My muse. In my creative writing class my senior year, I finally unveiled my creations to my peers with positive response, and my path has never been the same.
Even with this new self-awareness, I still entered the University of Tennessee undecided on my future. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to be a writer as a career, but with emergence into the journalism program I found a nice balance of writing and activity. I graduated from the University of Tennessee in May of 2011 with a degree in Communications, and aspirations to be a writer and editor.
After a brief time living in Los Angeles, I moved back to my hometown in Virginia, where I met Janet Morais and began working for the luxury furniture company KOKET. Janet quickly saw my passion for writing and I began with press releases and small blurbs for the brand before eventually being in charge of all content. I was then given the opportunity to be an editor-in-chief and writer for the Love Happens Blog, and haven’t looked back since.
The choices and paths of my life have led me to the Love Happens Blog and its dedicated audience, whom I get to share with every day. I hope my words enlighten and inspire your own path.”
