2016: The Best Fashion Moments
The new year is just aroud the corner and it´s time to look back at the year in fashion. 2016 has been one of the roughest years – we lost legends James Galanos, Sonia Rykiel, André Courrèges, and Bill Cunningham, as well as Richard Nicoll – but there were moments of pure, unfettered joy of the sort that only fashion can deliver. We´ve rounded up some of the best fashion moments of 2016.

This year, brands including Tom Ford, Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger and Ralph Lauren staged their first shoppable runway shows, enabling customers to buy their collections immediately after they debut on the catwalk, creating a seismic shift in the industry as a whole.
After releasing her Fenty x Puma collection, Riri headed to Paris to stage her second Puma collection, inspired by “Marie Antoinette if she went to the gym”. For her runway bow, she wore a pink lace suit, pearl choker and Puma fan—reminding us all of her style icon status.
Van Herpen was one of the featured artists at “Manus x Machina,” this year’s Costume Institute exhibition devoted to extraordinary clothing made using a combination of hand and machine techniques.
The designer staged his own couture show for Fall 2016 in Paris at an 18th-century house on the Rue de l’Université.

This was 2016’s most historic fashion moment. Just one day after the first US cruise ship in nearly 40 years docks in Cuba, Karl Lagerfeld took Chanel’s Cruise 2017 collection to the island and staged a runway show along Havana’s Paseo del Prado.
The event started nearly two hours late and some models fainting on the field due to heat and dehydration.
The industry said goodbye to photographer Bill Cunningham with a moving memorial at Carnegie Hall in October.
