Introducing the Pantone Color of the Year: Ultra Violet
If last year’s Pantone Color of the Year — a bright green symbolic of change and revitalization — didn’t quite meet expectations, 2018 may be the year for you. As you’ve probably already heard, Pantone announced this year’s color on Dec. 7. The rich, comforting purple, called Ultra Violet, symbolizes “mindfulness and boundary-pushing.”
Hopeful for the year’s focus on rights for the LGBTQ community, reminiscent of the loss of our beloved Prince and defining the boundless, futuristic feel of the year, Ultra Violet is bound to be an important color in this year’s interiors as well as fashion just like its own aesthetic pride flag.
As Laurie Pressman, vice president of Pantone Color Institute, told Architectural Digest, this year’s color melds with any room’s palette — it can be an accent color or a statement. This color of the year is all about interpretation.
Here are some of our favorite purple rooms, violet fashion looks and lavender inspirations.
