Meet Scout Sobel

Founder of Scout’s Agency & Author of The Emotional Entrepreneur

A little bit about ScoutScout experienced her first depressive episode at the age of 14 and was formally diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 20. Living with a mental illness brought an onslaught of symptoms: anxiety, hypomania, depression, catatonia, psychosis, and suicidal ideation. Her mental illness weighed down on her so poignantly that she dropped out of college, could not hold a job or internship, was hospitalized, experimented with medleys of prescription medication, and went through two outpatient programs. And after intense self-development work—support groups, holistic healing modalities, prayer, routines, and physical wellness, she found entrepreneurship. Through entrepreneurship, she learned to unconditionally love her life through the pain, challenges, and celebrations. She learned that she wanted to be here.

Today, Scout is the Founder and CEO of Scout’s Agency, a female-focused PR agency that specializes in getting women like Catt Sadler, Kelley Baker and Rebecca Minkoff and many other top names, as guests on podcasts. Scout led the agency to a six figure revenue in its first year (2019) with a 250% growth in 2020.

She is also the bestselling author of The Emotional Entrepreneur, a 25 lesson emotional guidebook for women who want to pursue a life of purpose which hit #11 on Amazon’s best selling charts for Women in Business and Top 100 for Entrepreneurship just 24 hours into launching on August 16, 2021!

Love Happens: As our name, and the tagline of our publisher KOKET denotes, at ‘Love Happens’ we are firm believers that you cannot achieve any level of success without love. When did your love affair with emotionally empowering female entreprenuers begin? And how did it make you feel?

Scout Sobel: Emotionally empowering female entrepreneurs came naturally to me. It wasn’t this aha moment or a conscious decision at first. I have been an entrepreneur since I was 22 and within the past eight years, I have gone through many different iterations of my careers with a plethora of businesses I started and then moved on from. The through-line between every project I dipped my toes into was that I was working with women and featuring women through my work.

When I started Okay Sis Podcast with my sister, we decided to only interview female guests. It was in that decision that what I was naturally drawn to in my past businesses (working with and supporting women) became solidified. Scout’s Agency was born out of Okay Sis so I naturally kept up supporting only women as clients since it felt right to me. As a woman who has always wanted to expand within business, it felt right to support others through their business journey. There is nothing more that I love than to do business with another female entrepreneur and to support their dreams expanding and coming true.

Lh: What empowers you?

Scout: Executing empowers me. I think there is something so powerful that happens when you have an idea in your mind and then you bring it out into the physical world. Each and every time I birth a new creation—my book, The Emotional Entrepreneur, Scout’s Agency, Okay Sis Podcast, SCOUT Podcast—I feel greatly empowered.

Lh: What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Scout: My greatest achievement was the moment I believed that I was safe in my emotions and no longer felt scared about living with bipolar disorder. Once I learned how to manage and feel empowered within my mental illness, my life soared. That is what I am most proud of – the fact that I took a severe mental illness and used it as my superpower.

Lh: Who is Scout Sobel the Woman?

Scout: Scout Sobel the Woman is introspective but filled with creative energy. She is empathetic and supportive while weaving in powerful truths. She is a generator: she takes ideas in her mind and executes them into reality. She is an alchemizer: she takes challenging situations and emotions and turns them into gold. She is an open book: she tells her story so that she can crack open others to the idea that they are safe in their emotions. She is sensitive, needs a lot of alone time, and gets shit done.

Lh: Who is Scout Sobel the author of The Emotional Entrepreneur and founder of Scout’s Agency?

Scout: This Scout Sobel is the pure generator. This Scout Sobel’s brain never stops. It’s an endless loop of ideas and visions for the future that can only be tamed by taking action. She makes things happen when others say it cannot be done. She takes risks on risks on risks. She does not stop until the job is complete and then she enters deep nourishing rest. She thinks, creates, and moves energy. She sees something that she wants and then she goes out and gets it for herself.

Lh: How do you empower other women?

Scout: I empower women by getting them as a guest on podcasts to tell their story and expand their mission, business, and offerings to new, aligned audiences over at Scout’s Agency. We amplify female voices so that their dreams can receive exposure. I empower women to feel safe in their emotions while building the life and the business of their dreams with my book, The Emotional Entrepreneur. And then, I show up daily on Instagram and weekly on my podcast, SCOUT Podcast, to continually help women feel less alone in their journey, inspired to take action over their lives, and know that they can do whatever it is they dream of doing.

Lh: What three pieces of advice would you give to a young woman starting her career?

1. Jump right in. My sister who started her own app told me that she did not know how to do a task needed to grow her business. I told her that from here on out, you won’t know how to do anything because you have never done any of this before! Forget that excuse because from here on out, you get to jump right in!

2. Disregard your self-doubt and fear. Allow it to be there, but show up 100% anyways even when it is uncomfortable.

3. Be nice to everyone. Any and every interaction can take you to the next level.

Lh: Do you have any mottos you like to live by?

Scout: Everyday, I live by this belief: “I am safe in my emotions.” This helps me through challenging moments when I am overwhelmed. If I am safe in my emotions—which I am—that means I can move through any challenge and show up regardless of how I am feeling with strength and faith.

Lh: What’s next for Scout Sobel?

Scout: After launching my book this past August of 2021, I decided to allow my next steps to come to me in perfect timing. They are starting to brew. They are starting to come to fruition. I will be announcing in January 2022 a new level of support for all of the emotional entrepreneurs! It will be more integrated support for any woman who is starting her own thing or in the middle of growing her own thing. We will go deep and shatter limiting beliefs, move through anxiety and our fear of failure to level-up and stand in our own unique personal power. Stay tuned for that announcement on my Instagram or sign up for my newsletter here where I will announce it first :).
