Captured On Film With Assouline

Photography is not just art; it’s a rare experience. Photographers see the world, examine it through the artistic view of an eccentric perspective, and with the smallest ounce of human touch upon a shutter button, a single instant is captured. The moment, now protected from the tricks of time, can be experienced by a multitude of people who would have never been able to experience that very moment themselves.

This art of rarity, known as photography, has inspired many people and other creative talents. This very inspiration with a passion for books led Prosper and Martine Assouline to start the eponymous luxury lifestyle brand dedicated to supplying everything you need for a sophisticated and chic home library. At the heart of the Assouline brand are the beautiful luxury books they publish. Each masterfully curated, exquisitely bound, and always filled with immaculate photographs.

The Power of Photogpraphy in Books

“For us, books are a matter of intellect and emotion, of heritage and innovation. Because information is not only about today, and the past is a sensational source of inspiration,” says Assouline.com. And of course, photography is a crucial element, along with a personal one! For it was pivotal in the founding of Assouline as Prosper’s own photographs combined with his wife’s words sparked its commencement.

Inspired by the desire to capture the beauty of one of their favorite hotels in France, La Colombe d’Or, Prosper and Martine created a mockup to show their friends who owned it. Upon seeing the beauty and essence of the hotel so wonderfully preserved through Prosper’s photographs and Martine’s words, the owners granted Martine and Prosper permission to publish the book that would be their gateway to becoming the epitome of luxury book publishing.

Today, Assouline has over 1,000 titles, each capturing thousands of magical instances. While topics and content vary, one thing remains the same. The power that photography holds in sharing the beauties of the world is unmatched. Throughout various cultures, art forms, and destinations, photography allows the world to come together, share experiences, and promote human touch even when we may be worlds away.

The following books promote such unity and exploration as moments are captured on film with Assouline.
