What is your idea of perfect happiness?

To me, perfect happiness is being in good health, doing what you love, surrounded by those you love.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement to date is making the leap to change my career in my mid-30s. I had no prior training nor had I ever worked for a design firm yet something in me told me to do it anyway.

What profession does your alter ego have?

Surgeon – I’m a self-proclaimed control freak who loves to problem solve so this profession would suit me well. Not to mention, it is just so interesting and must be entirely gratifying.

The project you will never forget.

I will never forget my first big project. Going into my interview with the client, I knew that I was the third designer on the project, but I thought if we were to be a good fit, it would all work out. I went in being completely myself and we have not only created a beautiful home together but we have created a strong bond that I am so grateful for.

Your favorite business tool or resource.

Honestly, Instagram and design magazines. I get so inspired by how creative other designers are and Instagram is where I can go and get lost in the rabbit hole. I also am an avid reader of all design-related articles. I’m subscribed to more online publications than I care to admit.

The most timeless design.

Mid-century modern design has my heart. The clean lines. The focus on natural materials. The emphasis on bringing the outdoors in. This is a design style that is beautifully simple and so incredibly timeless.

The biggest design faux pas.

Mixing too many design styles. Just because you like something doesn’t always mean you should have it in your home. If you are going to mix it up, pick two styles that complement each other and do it well. The outcome will be so much more cohesive than mixing in a bit of this and a bit of that.

Your design motto.

Edit fiercely and keep only the things that you absolutely love. Simplicity is the ultimate luxury.

Our publisher, KOKET, makes statement décor. If you were to design a room around one of their pieces, which would it be, and why?

I would design a chic little tasting room around this incredible bar cabinet. A bar is supposed to be sexy and fun, and this cabinet hits all of those notes. The serpent handles, the gorgeous marble veining in the doors, and that high lacquer black finish on the legs …. I’m drooling over here!
