The Lh Design Questionnaire with Karolina Łuczyńska

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Happiness is inside of you, not with another person. We should not look for it outside. It’s the result of the love you have for yourself. When you discover that, all wanting and needing are over… When you are at peace with yourself and the world around you, your inner light shines… And as you let your own light shine, you unconsciously give others permission to do the same.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is myself the person I grow into and my son. We are always the greatest project we will ever get to work on. So I always say … take time and create magic. The change in the world starts within.

What profession does your alter ego have?

Interior designer is the only thing I wanted to do in my life since I was a little girl. It’s my greatest passion of all.

The project you will never forget.

Hollywood Hills project. It was the most demanding so far. But at the same time the most satisfying. I love challenges because they make you grow.

The most timeless design.

Elegance, particularly in design and personal style, is one of the first qualities that outsiders notice, and elegance certainly causes a favorable and lasting first impression.

Elegance requires physical cleanliness. No matter your style, it cannot be elegant if it is not clean. Elegant design also involves cleanliness in the lines of your space—in the architecture, furniture, and décor.

Elegance itself is timeless although the specific trends that are seen as “elegant” may vary from era to era. But true elegance is not about being noticed, but being remembered.

The biggest design faux pas.

I can name the most important design faux pas which we should avoid.

  • One thing I see a LOT of is not enough—or sometimes nonexistent—accent and task lighting.
  • Wall art mounted too low or too high.
  • Too small rugs.
  • Too much matching. We should not buy all the furniture and decor in a single pattern or color. You need to mix it up to add visual interest. Use different fabrics and patters. Add layers.
  • Clinging to trends. There are uncountable trends that shift all the time. It’s one of the biggest decorating mistakes people make when designing their homes. Instead of focusing on what they really love, they’re looking over their shoulders. While their choices should be more personal.
  • Overdoing a theme.
  • Fake flowers.
  • Forgetting balance.

Your design motto.

Never touch anything with half of your heart and always give more than expected.

Interior design has always been defined by its moment in time, generational movements that are, in turn, shaped by culture, economics, and fashion. But one thing should never change it—feeling. So when first approaching the space design, don’t think about how you want it to look. Think about how you want it to feel.

Throw out that instructional design language and speak like a human being, because designing is not about the right place of the furniture or utility objects. It’s about love. It’s like seduction which creates long-term commitment. Commitment to your home.

If you were to design a room around one KOKET piece, which would it be, and why?

I absolutely love KOKET designs! And to be honest I am not able to focus on only one piece. They are all unique and make a statement in an interior. I already used the Cuff chair in two projects of luxury master bedrooms. I also know that KOKET was featured in “Fifty Shades of Grey” which was a big inspiration for me to create a perfect Playroom for one of my clients based on the collection. But I can’t reveal more about it just yet ;-)!
