Meet the Dynamic Design Duo March & White
Elegant, edgy, innovative, holistic, bespoke and highly detailed – these are just a few words that describe the alluring architecture and interior design creations composed by the London-based creative brand March & White. KOKET has fallen in LOVE with this duo!
With a global clientele of luxurious hotels, restaurants, yachts and residences, founders James White and Elliot March have won acclaim in the design and celebrity circles leading them to add offices in New York and Los Angeles to their London base.
Both veteran architects who began their careers working at numerous renowned design firms, March & White bring an extensive industry knowledge to each project and their architectural roots give way to a unique approach to interior design.
The pair is intrigued by the concepts of elegance and luxury and instill their beliefs and passion for both in all of their designs.
When asked about the importance of elegance March replied, “Elegance informs everything that is made to last. Elegance simply makes most acts and events in life more memorable and special.”
White has a unique fascination with luxury design, “My work is a response to this innate desire for crafted and luxurious beauty. Beyond simply being pleased by the visual and tactile quality, I am intrigued by the psychology of luxury and beauty.”
And an ever more common outlook on it, “[Luxury] is justified because it is complex to understand. It is not about money. It is increasingly about experience, emotion and memory. On one hand luxury can be very basic, it can be about being away from the world, close to nature, without the trappings of modern life. On the other it can be the most exquisite object invested with history and craft.”
March & White not only bring elegance and luxury to their projects, they also “seek to create a story or engage in storytelling that highlights a project’s history,” says March. “This helps to create a warmth and depth while enhancing the interior design.”
The firm got their start in luxury yacht design, spawned by March’s lifelong passion for sailing, a longstanding dream to design super-yacht interiors, and a deep understanding and love of water. “Designing interiors which respond to the elemental qualities of the ocean: color, movement and light, is a thrill to me,” says March.
Next stop on their design feats were private clubs such as London’s The Arts Club and Devonshire Club. These elegant, exclusive members-only social clubs with century old history’s helped March & White continue to grow their range of work leading to hospitality spaces, private houses for the elite and even royal residences. But whatever the requirements of the space are, the design team always creates with a meticulous response to the needs and desires of each client.
“We approach each project with no preconceptions – we don’t have a “house style”, but we do have a process. This involves mapping out initial concept then producing detailed designs and visualizations so we can discuss how the design is processing with the client,” says White.
Their process and attention to detail is beautifully seen in their design of the Devonshire Club.
For the Hyde Park Gate residences in London, March & White created apartment interiors with a clever approach to light, fusing a traditional British vibe with contemporary details.
Currently in the midst of a series of high-profile residential projects that have brought them to the US, March & White’s first American project, set to unveil this September, is the LA home of the infamous English reality TV judge and producer Simon Cowell. The teams is also in the process of designing a luxury furniture and bar line inspired by their yacht design projects.
We cannot wait to see what this duo creates next!
