Wondering what’s on in London this weekend? The epic London Design Festival 2017 that’s what! Now in its fifteenth year, the notorious design festival, which attracts an average of 3.3 million visitors from around the world, will begin this Saturday September 16th and run through next Sunday the 24th. Featuring hundreds of events across the city, over 500 partners, landmark projects and inspiring commissions at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the 9 day fair showcases London’s pivotal role in global design.

100% Design

What's on in London this weekend? 100% Design London

The cornerstone of the London Design Festival, 100% Design is the largest trade show for architects and designers in the UK.  100% Design 2017 is the 23rd edition of the event which will take place September 20-23 at the Olympia exhibition center. The show is divided into five sections – Interiors, Workplace, Kitchens & Bathrooms, Design & Build and Emerging Brands and boasts the most well attended and comprehensive seminar program in UK design.

Camille Walala, dubbed as the “purveyor of positivity,” has created a stunning art installation called Villa Walala in London’s business district of Brodgate. A soft “building-block castle” made of vinyl, sealed PVC inners, and industrial-strength nylon, the fan-inflated fantasyland serves as a stress-reliever with its playful pops of color and stress balls.


2017 London Design Festival Projects at the V&A Museum

For the past 9 years the London Design Festival has partnered with the world’s leading museum of art, design and performance, the Victoria & Albert, to offer inspiring design programs throughout the festival. This year’s unique collaboration fills the museum with an extraordinary range of design installations large and small, intricate and majestic.

Transmission by Ross Lovegrove

What's on in London this weekend? London Design Festival V&A Commissions Transmission Alcantara, Victoria & Albert Musuem, Ross Lovegrove

Placed inside the museum’s Tapestry Room, the Transmission installation was created by Ross Lovegrove to interpret the two-dimensional tapestries on display into a single three-dimensional sculpture. Made of Alcantara (marketed as an alternative to animal-made textiles), the almost snake-like work uses gold and silver threads to capture natural light and define its undulating form.

Reflection Room by Flynn Talbot

What's on in London this weekend? Reflection Room by Flynn Talbot at the London Design Festival 2017 V&A Commissions Victoria & Albert Musuem

Looking for a fully engaging experience? Visit the Reflection Room by Flynn Talbot located inside the V&A’s Prince Consort Gallery. Flynn Talbot uses his signature orange and blue lighting to illuminate the gallery’s 35-meter-space. Reminiscent of the 1980s film Tron, it makes use of black reflective panels to create the illusion of a larger room.


Fashioning Space

What's on in London this weekend? Fashioning Space at the London Design Festival 2017 by Intoart

The Fashioning Space installation by Intoart brings together garments, textile hangings and furniture designed by artists including Ntiense Eno Amooquaye, Mawuena Kattah and Clifton Wright, in collaboration with designers Holly Fulton and James Lambert.
