After all, aren’t women done shrinking themselves to fit in these boxes? Who says femininity needs to be quiet and “demure?”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You’re likely already well aware of the viral video by creator Jools Lebron, and the resulting social media storm of posts talking about what is and is not “demure,” telling viewers to witness someone’s “mindful” behavior. There’s no escaping it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above all, the demure trend is a reclamation of a word that has been used to praise women for being compliant, quiet, and soft-spoken. It’s a commentary on the way feminine-presenting people have to operate in the world, but of course, there’s a wink and a nod. It’s demure to be in on the joke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
