Historically, women weren\u2019t expected to join the workforce outside of reception, education, or nursing roles. Traditionally male-dominated fields can be tricky to get into due to discrimination or lack of accommodation. Women are stepping up and overcoming these barriers by spreading awareness and implementing support groups and organizations that share resources. Over the past few decades, certain industries have seen a major influx of female employees, proving resilience and determination are keys to success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

General Contracting<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Overseeing and managing construction projects has traditionally been a male-focused role. However, general contractors are one of the many skilled trades that more women are flocking to. Those with project management experience can thrive as general contractors as they manage employees, resolve conflicts, and plan construction projects from start to finish. Construction labor shortages and the implementation of support groups for women in the field have allowed many more female general contractors to flourish than ever before. Many women have skyrocketed to CEO positions in construction companies. If you\u2019re not afraid of getting your hands dirty, general contracting can be an excellent career path for anyone, including women. You\u2019ll need a license to become a general contractor, depending on where you live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

North Carolina<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

If you live in North Carolina, contracting licenses are required to work in the state. Exam prep is recommended before taking the test for your North Carolina general contractor license<\/a>, as it can be lengthy. There are three different levels of licensing depending on the type of work you want to do, and you\u2019ll also need to establish financial requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minnesota<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Minnesota doesn\u2019t have an official statewide requirement for a general contracting license, but it\u2019s a good idea, and many municipalities require one. Like North Carolina, you\u2019ll need to prepare for and take a lengthy exam. Filling out an application and obtaining the required insurance is also necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

California<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

California general contractors need to provide evidence of at least four years\u2019 worth of work experience. You will also need proof of insurance and to pass two different exams related to the industry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although many women have made profound achievements and accomplishments in the world of engineering, they remain underrepresented. Women make up at least 20% of engineering graduates, but the number continues to grow. The field is filled with diverse roles<\/a>, from aerospace to industrial, so if you\u2019re passionate about creating machines, buildings, and systems, the sky is your limit! Unlike trade jobs, you\u2019ll need at least one formal degree to obtain most engineering work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aviation<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the past, society assigned aviation as an industry more suitable to men. Women were barred from most aviation roles. While statistics still reflect the industry as male-dominated, anyone can join aviation roles today, like airline executives and pilots. There are several organizations dedicated to amplifying female pilots and providing the resources they need to succeed. There are over 70,000 female pilots, and the number is only increasing. To become a pilot, you need to obtain private and commercial pilot licenses. Pilot schools provide the resources necessary for success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Healthcare<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the past, people would picture women in healthcare as nurses only; men were the \u201creal\u201d doctors. In current times, this couldn\u2019t be farther from the truth. Women represent nearly half (over 40%) of the active physician workforce in America! Women of all backgrounds can thrive in healthcare, whether you aim to work as a surgeon, hospital CEO, or a nurse. It takes a lot of schooling and training to become a physician<\/a>. Pre-medical degrees, medical school, and residencies can take nearly a decade of studying. The pay is generally very high, and you\u2019ll help save lives. Some also explore flexible career options and may\u00a0need assistance finding locum tenens work<\/a>\u00a0that fits their lifestyle and professional goals. The number of female doctors grows each year with no signs of stopping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Information Technology<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Information technology (IT) involves using computers or other technology to store or process data. Cybersecurity specialists, software developers, and coders are all types of roles you can find in IT. While millions of women work in information technology, it makes up only a little over 20% of the field. Finding a role as a woman in IT isn\u2019t impossible, however. Plenty of organizations and support groups are dedicated to sharing resources for women in tech. Obtaining a degree or training in computer science or programming is open and accessible to all genders. If you\u2019re passionate about computers and technology, there are no downsides to pursuing a career or business<\/a> in tech. These roles are in-demand, diverse, high-paying, and flexible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
