My bookshelf was crafted by a woman who makes use of old barn wood that would have otherwise been wasted by being burnt or buried. An further craftsman who I am acquainted with exclusively purchases from sawmills that replant more trees than they chop down. When you purchase furniture from individuals such as these, you are not only acquiring furniture; you are also supporting better business methods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, knowing who made your stuff is kind of great. I have a side table with a beautiful living edge, and I know the person who cut, dried, planned, and polished that slab to fit the natural curve. He sent me pictures of it as he was working on it. To get this kind of experience, I would suggest working at a furniture warehouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
