As we know, September is the January of fashion. Textures, Colors, Sizes, Inspirations, Trends, and Materials change like leaves this month, and you can find them all in one place – Vogue’s September Issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since Anna Wintour<\/strong>‘s been at the helm, the American version of Vogue <\/i><\/b>has been more popular and relevant than ever.\u00a0And the September issues have only become a bigger and bigger deal as a result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here, we take a look back at some of Anna’s most memorable September covers since she took over as editor-in-chief in November of 1988!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anna’s first September cover in 1989 as Vogue<\/em> editor went to Naomi Campbell<\/strong>! It was also Naomi’s first solo cover for the magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supermodel Linda Evangelista<\/strong> was the reigning cover queen of the early ’90s. Here, she poses against a typical Vogue<\/em> grassy background for the September 1993 issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supermodels and best friends\u00a0Shalom Harlow<\/strong> and Amber Valletta<\/strong> appeared on the September 1995 issue of the magazine. In those days, Anna Wintour was fond of putting two or three models on the cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renee Zellweger<\/strong> became the first celebrity to grace the cover of a September issue during Anna Wintour’s tenure at Vogue. She made her debut in 1998.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Renee, celebrities became far more common cover stars for the magazine.\u00a0Gwyneth Paltrow<\/strong> made one of many appearances on the September 1999 cover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By 2003, A-listers had pretty much monopolized the September issue of the magazine, with Nicole Kidman<\/strong> even being named a style icon right there on the front page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The September 2004 issue heralded a return to models on the cover, featuring a foldout with the year’s hottest models, including Gisele Bundchen<\/strong>, in the spotlight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Jessica Parker<\/strong> is close friends with Anna Wintour, so of course, she’d get a September cover at some point.\u00a0The eternal Carrie Bradshaw in the September Issue of Vogue in 2005.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kirsten Dunst,<\/strong> as Marie Antoinette graced the September 2006 issue, looking regal. It was the perfect tie-in to Sofia Coppola<\/strong>‘s movie and a great homage to the outrageous fashions of the French queen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sienna Miller<\/strong>‘s cover for Vogue<\/em>‘s September 2007 issue was the subject of The September Issue<\/em> documentary. At the time, it was also the biggest issue EVER for the magazine, weighing in at nearly five pounds! You might also remember that Anna Wintour had her photography team Photoshop an image of Sienna’s face onto a different image of her body to get the perfect photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the September 2004 issue, models didn’t show up again on the front of a September issue until Kate Moss<\/strong> in 2011. The cover was also highly reminiscent of Linda Evangelista’s 2001 September cover, featuring a purple off-shoulder dress and green, natural background.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a super successful year, which included winning an Oscar<\/a><\/strong>, Jennifer Lawrence<\/strong> was a natural choice as the cover star for the September 2013 issue!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Models made a triumphant return to the front of the September issue this year in 2014! It’s been ten years since the last model group got the honor and now Cara Delavigne<\/a> is one of the ones who got it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this year, Vogue chose Queen Beyonce for the cover. “There\u2019s only one September issue, and there\u2019s only one Beyonc\u00e9”. We can keep believing in Anna Wintour’s amazing taste in having empowering women on the cover of the most famous issue of Vogue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen I first moved to NY, and I was totally broke, sometimes I would buy Vogue instead of dinner. I just felt it fed me more.\u201d \u2013 Carrie Bradshaw, Sex & The City.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
