People will share their marriage proposals on social media within 23 minutes of saying yes. But divorce?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We whisper about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like it&#8217;s something shameful instead of something that happens to roughly 38% of Canadian marriages (and about 42% in the States).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yeah, I get it because I used to be that person too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-the-conversation-nobody-wants-to-have\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Conversation Nobody Wants to Have<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When my friend Sarah told me she was ending her marriage last spring, she looked absolutely terrified. Not because of the emotional weight (she&#8217;d already done that work in therapy). She was scared of the paperwork. The forms. The legal maze that seemed designed to make you feel incompetent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here&#8217;s what I wish someone had told her earlier. Sometimes it&#8217;s just sitting there while they ugly-cry for 47 minutes straight without trying to fix anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You know what doesn&#8217;t help? Treating them like they&#8217;re fragile. We hire planners, taste 47 different cake flavors, and stress about whether Aunt Linda will start drama at table 6. But we don&#8217;t talk about what happens if it doesn&#8217;t work out, which seems kinda backwards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;m not saying we should be pessimistic when people get engaged. I&#8217;m saying we should be realistic about the fact that sometimes love changes shape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Marriage is kinda like a business partnership, but with feelings and shared Netflix passwords. Sometimes partnerships end. And when they do, you need an exit strategy that doesn&#8217;t destroy both people financially and emotionally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sarah told me something that stuck with me. She said the hardest part wasn&#8217;t deciding to leave. She&#8217;d known for 11 months before she said anything. Actually doing it without going broke or losing her mind? That was the real challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"h-why-we-need-better-conversations\" class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Why We Need Better Conversations<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I think we do people a disservice when we only celebrate the beginnings of relationships and then go silent when things shift or end. Love happens, but so does change. So does the realization that you&#8217;re better off as co-parents than as spouses who resent each other over breakfast every single morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The people who handle divorce best aren&#8217;t the ones who pretend it&#8217;s easy or post inspirational quotes about new beginnings on Instagram. They&#8217;re the ones who treat it like what it actually is: a legal process that needs handling, an emotional journey that needs support, and a life transition that deserves careful planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You wouldn&#8217;t buy a house without doing research. You wouldn&#8217;t start a business without understanding the paperwork. But somehow we expect people to figure out divorce while they&#8217;re already emotionally exhausted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We can do better than that. We can talk openly, share resources, and stop acting like divorce is something that happens to other people. Because honestly?
