That is the case with Amy Bonnaffons\u2019 <em>The\nRegrets<\/em>, with the Georgia-based author\u2019s February release sparkling with\nthe confidence and creativity of a seasoned writer. That may be because\nBonnaffons is no newcomer to the world of literature, despite this being her\nfirst&nbsp;novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons.png\" alt=\"Amy Bonnaffons author of The Regrets, writer\" class=\"wp-image-41127\" width=\"710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons.png 802w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons-150x150.png 150w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons-300x300.png 300w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Amy-Bonnaffons-768x765.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 802px) 100vw, 802px\" \/><\/a><figcaption>Amy Bonnaffons<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bonnaffons\nreleased her short-story collection <em>The Wrong Heaven<\/em>&nbsp;in 2018 with\npublishers Little, Brown, with this same combination returning for the launch\nof <em>The Regrets<\/em>. <em>The Wrong Heaven <\/em>features a series of stories\nthat integrate fantastical elements into the real world, something that\nBonnaffons has continued to explore in <em>The Regrets<\/em>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><em><strong>The Regrets<\/strong><\/em><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>The Regrets<\/em>&nbsp;finds Bonnaffons on similar thematic ground. <em>The Washington Post\u2019<\/em>s review <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/entertainment\/books\/amy-bonnaffonss-the-regrets-puts-an-otherworldly-spin-on-the-breakup-novel\/2020\/02\/11\/76a32302-4909-11ea-bdbf-1dfb23249293_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">summarizes the plot<\/a> of the book in pithy fashion: \u201ca hip, single Brooklyn librarian falls for a sexy ghost\u201d. That review by Bethanne Patrick also comments on how the novel deals with the universal challenges of a relationship, but Bonnaffons uses those ghostly elements to deliver an intriguing twist on the idea of a breakup novel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TheRegrets.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TheRegrets-678x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Regrets by Amy Bonnaffons\" class=\"wp-image-41128\" width=\"710\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TheRegrets-678x1024.jpg 678w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TheRegrets-199x300.jpg 199w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/TheRegrets.jpg 750w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 678px) 100vw, 678px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">USA Today goes a step further in its analysis of how Bonnaffons merges the features of a modern relationship with something more otherworldly, with Barbara VanDenburgh\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/eu.usatoday.com\/story\/entertainment\/books\/2020\/02\/04\/book-review-the-regrets-amy-bonnaffon-ghost-sex\/4651441002\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">glowing review<\/a> suggesting that this intelligent debut gives a new and much more literal meaning to the term \u2018ghosting\u2019. That word is a fairly new addition to the vocabulary of relationships, but Bonnaffons\u2019 interpretation of ghosting will resonate with readers that have used dating apps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, <a href=\"https:\/\/badoo.com\/the-truth\/dating-trends\/what-is-ghosting-and-why-do-people-do-it-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">what is ghosting<\/a> in its more common form? Ghosting is the act of ending all communication with someone, suddenly and without any explanation. This can rob someone of the chance to find all-important closure at the end of a relationship.&nbsp;That idea of finding closure is explored with nuance by Bonnaffons, with the novel as much about building healthy relationships as it is about actual ghosts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Thomas, that aforementioned sexy ghost&nbsp;introduced at the start of the novel, has a unique predicament; what is essentially an admin error has denied him passage to the proper afterlife, so he is given 90 days to return to Earth and kill time. Thomas is advised to avoid romance, but he soon finds that sparks are flying with Rachel the librarian. With a time limit on their relationship, Thomas and Rachel have to confront the idea of ghosting head-on.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter is-resized\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bykoket.com\/guilty-pleasures\/lighting\/passion-sconce.php?utm_source=LH_Blog_Article&amp;utm_medium=banner&amp;utm_campaign=Banner_Article&amp;utm_content=passion_sconce\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/ext-campaign\/article\/kk-passion-sconce-1.jpg\" alt=\"gold nature inspired wall sconce - passion sconce by koket\" width=\"710\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Bonnaffons Passion for Writing<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From the timebound nature of Thomas\u2019 stay on Earth to the difficulties of introducing your love interest\/a ghost to your friends, Bonnaffons has created a beguiling story that isn\u2019t afraid to tackle the hard questions. It sits neatly alongside her work in <em>The Wrong Heaven<\/em>, but it shows that Bonnaffons also excels in the longer format. Her love of writing has also taken her into other important disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bonnaffons is a founding editor of 7&#215;7.la, an online <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/7x7.la\/\" target=\"_blank\">literary journal<\/a> that facilitates collaborations between exciting visual artists and writers. These productions are completely original and push creative boundaries. So this site goes hand in hand with Bonnaffons\u2019 work as a novelist. If running 7&#215;7.la and writing novels weren\u2019t enough to keep her busy. She is also working on a Ph.D. in creative writing at the University of Georgia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Readers captivated by <em>The Regrets&nbsp;<\/em>will hope that Bonnaffons continues to write novels that explore real-world problems with a spiritual and fantastical slant. Given&nbsp;the positive responses to the debut novel, it would be a shame if we didn\u2019t read a lot more about Amy Bonnaffons in the years ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p style=\"color:#682d92\" class=\"has-text-color has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\"><em><strong>Looking for more books to love?
