Instead, Highway 1\ncuts inland into the windy coastal hills and redwood forests from the sea.\nSetting off from Black Sands Beach near Shelter Cove is around a 25-mile hike\nthat can be walked either way (north-south or vice-versa). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lost Coast Trail from\nthe south runs to Usal Beach about 30 miles south of Black Sands Beach for\nthose who are looking for an even longer walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officially known as South Rim Walk, the Tonto Trail stretches from Garnet to Red Canyon. Water can be a problem on the Tonto, especially in summer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Appropriate sources\nof water include Hermit Creek, Monument Creek, and Garden Creek, but note that\nyou Should filter or treat water as it could be laden with heavy metals and\nunpleasant bacteria. The backcountry campsites located along this path need to be\nreserved with the Backcountry Rangers Office with a wilderness permit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Catalina Island is located 22 miles south of the mainland<\/a> and couldn’t be any more distinct from the Southern California continental. The hiking can be rough, as it is pretty exposed all along the route. It’s not a great hike for the summer months as it can be scorching. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are hidden\nbeaches and a spectacular desert-island landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can walk the hike\nreally at your own pace. Whether you happen to be a slower hiker, if you’re\nhiking it in the summer sun, bare in mind that the walk will take you around\nfour days to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mount Katahdin is the\niconic peak where hikers on the Appalachian Trail either begin or end their\nepic journey. Ths hike can be tough. The road is steep and slow-moving mercilessly in areas along\nthe so-called Knife’s Edge path. The hike is an absolute pleasure, with the\nright level of fitness, rewarded by the beautiful scenery found at the top.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n

The scenery is spectacular, and the crowds are not as plentiful as you might expect from such a magnificent national park. The trip to Cracker Lake can be made as an intense day-hike, or as a relaxing overnight stay. I suggest the latter. Trust me, the last thing you want to do once you arrive here is turn around and leave. Glacier National Park stays relatively cold for the majority of the year due to its northern location. I can not think of a better place to be on a good, bright summer’s day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Longs Peak, Colorado<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Colorado Longs Peak\nis one of the most impressive 14,000-foot peaks that one can climb in the\nstate. The walk is both challenging and satisfying. Many hikers head out while\nit’s still dark in the early hours of the morning. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can catch the sunrise above the tree line by doing so and still allow yourself enough time to complete the trek before sunset. The Longs Peak hike climbs more than 5,000 feet through the regular Keyhole path. Half the people attempting to reach the top of Long’s peak do not make it to the summit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Few other places on earth offer the chance to get down in a canyon and gawk at the eroded rock walls of 18 million years. The Narrows refer to two hikes, both the bottom-up hike of 3.6 miles (5.8 km) from Sinawava Temple to Big Springs, as well as the top-down hike of 16 miles (26 km) from Chamberlain’s Ranch back to Sinawava Temple (for which we suggest taking a backpacking tent and making it an overnight stay).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Water levels vary\nfrom season to season; most hikers wade waist-deep at least, and others swim a\nfew short sections. Flash flood danger is a very significant problem to\nremember while walking the Narrows, and usually hiking slot canyons. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
