After an intense 2020, and a not much smoother beginning to 2021, we are so excited to hear that the Met Gala is back! Best of all, we are going to have not one, but two exhibitions. Are you ready?! We so are!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 12th, the Metropolitan Museum of Art<\/a> announced that the annual fashion exhibition would take place in two parts. The first, In America: Lexicon of Fashion<\/em> will open on September 18th to commemorate the Costume Institutes 75th anniversary. The second exhibition\u2014In America: An Anthology of Fashion<\/em>\u2014will begin on May 5, 2022. Both will run until September 5th of 2022.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The opening of the first exhibition will be marked by the end of New York Fashion Week. And finally, (hopefully anyway!), this will be the moment we’ve been waiting for, the catwalk live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Met Gala 2021 & 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

So, as you would expect with two exhibitions comes two parties! Due to COVID-19 related restrictions, Anna Wintour, chief editor of Vogue and chairwoman of the Met Gala, postponed the 2020 party. However, with restrictions becoming less stringent thanks to vaccinations the board made the official call to schedule the much-anticipated event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Met further states that the September 13th, 2021 Gala will be more intimate. However, in May 2022 we can surely expect the return of the extravagant red carpet looks we so love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the exhibitions themselves, Costume Institute curator Andrew Bolton will continue to explore broad themes\u2014”Camp<\/a>“, Catholicism and China have been among the focuses in recent years\u2014rather than offering retrospectives from a specific designer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The two-part exhibition will assess the state of American fashion. Along with important figures and the identity of the industry. Further, we can expect the first part to showcase the modernization of the fashion vocabulary in connection with “equity, diversity, and inclusion”. In the second part, we will see collaborations with American filmmakers to “investigate further the evolution of the American fashion language,” says Bolton.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
