After working at Sotheby&#8217;s New York, I started Reed &amp; Acanthus Antiques and Interiors. I absolutely loved buying trips and purchasing at auctions, but as tastes changed in the early 2000s, I began focusing more on interior design. Twenty years later, I have expanded into home renovations and construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Reed-Acanthus_Ann-Ruthmann-Photography_2.jpg\" alt=\"reed and acanthus kitchen design\" class=\"wp-image-94359\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Reed-Acanthus_Ann-Ruthmann-Photography_2.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Reed-Acanthus_Ann-Ruthmann-Photography_2-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.lovehappensmag.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/Reed-Acanthus_Ann-Ruthmann-Photography_2-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Interior by Reed &amp; Acanthus | Photo by Ann Ruthmann<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-profession-does-your-alter-ego-have\"><strong>What profession does your alter ego have?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Architect &#8211; After recently renovating our C. 1900 home in New Orleans, I very much enjoyed playing with the space arrangement needed to bring a historic home into the 21st century while still maintaining the character and architectural integrity of one of the city&#8217;s most iconic homes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since most of the renovation took&nbsp;place&nbsp;during and just after the pandemic, when the most basic materials were in short supply, I was forced to design and have our team produce doors, windows, moldings, iron railings, exterior columns, etc., based on design elements I found around the city which was challenging and exhilarating! <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And I know a lot more than I should about HVAC systems and tankless water heaters! Mixing and matching furniture of different styles&nbsp;allows for greater creativity and individuality in designing &#8211; not just in the bedroom, but throughout the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-your-design-motto\"><strong>Your design motto.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no such thing as too much wallpaper! In the past, wallpaper has gotten a bad wrap &#8211; who doesn&#8217;t remember 1960\/70&#8217;s flocked velvet? If you were to design a room around one of their pieces, which would it be, and why?<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Temptation Aged Mirror Bar Cabinet is not only functional but the perfect focal point for a formal entertaining area. Reminiscent of 17th-century cabinets on stand, which were a&nbsp;symbol of wealth and status, this piece is&nbsp;a chic and sexy bar with a black lacquer base and aged mirror front.
