Born in Rome on September 20, 1934, Sophia Loren never stopped imagining a life of stardom through her hardships. From the town of Pizzouli, widely characterized as poverty stricken and squalid, would rise one of the world’s most iconic movie stars. Most empowering is that even after 100 films, decades in the spotlight, and multiple highly acclaimed awards, the Italian Icon has always been recognized as staying true to herself and humble to her Italian roots.

Like many other aspiring actresses, Sophia spent much of her early career dabbling with smaller acting and modeling roles. It wasn’t until a leading role in The Gold of Naples (1954) that Loren established herself as one of the up-and-coming stars of Italian cinema.The Italian icon built a tenacious career, starring in major Hollywood films and Italian productions.

Sophia Loren’s beauty never undermined her undoubtable talent. The actress won Best Actress Academy Award for the film Two Women in 1961 and an Academy Honorary Award in 1991.
