If you want to make the most out of your career, then one of the best things you can do is regularly review your position. If you begin to feel as though your current career isn’t working for you, or if you feel as though you need to make a change but don’t quite know how, then this guide will show you the things you need to look out for.

Your Job isn’t Enabling You to Progress

If you get to the point where your job simply isn’t helping you with your professional development, then this is a big sign that you need to make a change. A fulfilling career is based on learning, experiencing new challenges, and fulfilling your professional development. If you don’t have any clear ways to grow, or if you feel as though you are just going through the motions time and time again, then this is a big sign that you need to do something about that.

When you stop learning and you don’t feel challenged, then this is when complacency sets in. This is a big red flag, as it shows that you need to experience something a little different. Now is the time for you to give some thought to the things that you want to do, if you can. If you have always wanted to be a deep-sea diver or marine biologist, then it could be worth taking the Abyss Scuba Diving’s PADI course. On the flip side, if you have always wanted to work in construction or something within a trade, then you might want to see if there are any apprenticeships available so you can learn skills while on the job

You Don’t Share Your Organisation’s Values

You should have a transparent company that is looking out for you. If you notice that your organisation is cutting corners in ways that you find uncomfortable or if you know that the leadership team is making decisions that are clashing with your ethics, then this is a big sign that you need to do something about that. If you don’t, then this can drain you physically and emotionally. If you find yourself questioning the ethical direction of the company or if you know that they are not upholding the values that they once did, then again, this is a major sign that you need to make a change.

You may also experience burnout as a result of this, which is a whole new issue. Burnout can make you feel as though your mental health is at risk, and eventually, it will eat away at you and your professional development. You may also find that you have to take time off work, which is the last thing you need, as it will stall your progress even more, and it will also look bad on your work record.

If you want to do something about this, then make sure that you take the time to seek out new opportunities so you can make sure that you’re not missing out on anything.
