Growing up in a diplomatic family, he gained inspiration from the many countries where he lived and traveled. 

Baümer’s path to becoming a renowned jeweler was not straightforward. He pursued engineering studies because he wanted to make his parents happy, but also to gain valuable skills. Skills that would later prove instrumental in his craft. Providing him with a deep understanding of optics, material composition, and costing—essential elements in jewelry design. The way he seamlessly integrates technical expertise with artistic vision is one of his brand’s most notable qualities.

The Chanel Opportunity

While his peers pursued more traditional engineering careers with their degrees, Baümer began selling custom jewelry to his mother’s friends, armed with nothing but a small bag and a passion for his craft. These early pieces were modestly priced, and his parents were skeptical. However, Baümer’s determination paid off, and he soon found himself on a path to renown. 

When Chanel was embarking on fine jewelry, they reached out to Baümer, and said, “We’ll give you a shot.” he embraced the challenge. His designs were an instant success, and he worked with Chanel for two decades. He also collaborated with brands like Louis Vuitton and Cartier, designing under contract while maintaining his own line. Experience with luxury houses honed his skills and shaped his approach to his brand, emphasizing personal authenticity, creativity, and meticulous craftsmanship.

Baümer describes his style as sophisticated yet understated. He appreciates brands like Hermès and Chanel, often pairing their timeless pieces with his bespoke jewelry. As the only living independent jeweler on the prestigious Place Vendôme in Paris, Baümer’s creations transcend mere marketing; they are born from a place of creativity and heartfelt passion. He recalls his first experience falling in love with a retail space—a now-closed, well-curated luxury vintage store in Paris. He was among the first to use titanium, creating jewelry that could be scented with perfume. He also embraced 3D computer designs before they became mainstream, using technology to enhance the beauty and intricacy of his creations.
