The haute couture fashion designer turned fashion house recently began dabbling in the home sector since its start in 1987. This modern collection will be Christian Lacroix’s first foray into furniture, following Roche Bobois’ collaborations with other top designers including Missoni, Sonia Rykiel and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Walckhoff was given carte blanche by Roche Bobois in designing this twenty-piece series, crafted for the Roche Bobois’ Nouveaux Classiques collection. Taking only an impressive two months to finish, the result is a luscious blend of luxurious materials combined with the Lacroix over-the-top extravagance, fused with designs and aesthetics from different eras.

Paying homage to decades past as well as to the eponymous fashion designer, an engraving of Lacroix’s hometown of Arles, France in the nineteenth century adorns the cabinets and sideboards of the collection, as well as on a double sided screen. On the reverse side of the screen, a lush garden print of palm trees featuring images taken from images and photos throughout time.

Striped dining room chairs, another homage to the fabric used for the fashion house’s Cigale dress, feature backs in hourglass shapes, evoking memories of haute couture mannequin silhouettes. KOKET features a similar design, the Allure dining table, whose golden metal base is reminiscent of a woman’s waist silhouette.

The Christian Lacroix Maison and Roche Bobois furniture collaboration is one of many pioneers into the evolution of blending fashion and interior design. Currently Christian Lacroix offers a lavish home décor line, featuring fabrics, wallpaper, cushions, stationery and tableware, but if this collection is any indication of the Lacroix to come, we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
