We all know about London Fashion Week… but did you know there’s a London Hat Week? This fabulous period of time is being marked this year with a special fashion exhibition by X Terrace Fashion Platform, displaying over 300 intricately made, artistic creations that can be worn on your head. The artisans crafted beautiful hats inspired by a piece of culture or lost ancient craftsmanship from their home countries around the world. The exhibition is being held from the 22nd to the 28th of March at Living Centre in London. See below to get a taste of the exhibition to come!

“The Great Exhibition of the Works of Millinery of All Nations”

Created by Atelier Monique Lee, The “Court of the Myrtles” hat below was inspired by Spain, where Moorish poets described the Alhambra palace as “a pearl set in emeralds”.

Angie Jackman was inspired by her home country of Australia for this ethereal, goddess-worthy piece. She drew inspiration from the iconic Australian Eucalyptus tree.

This futuristic piece caught our eye with its gleaming silver lines. Another hat inspired by Australia, this time by designer Ana Pribylova. She based her design off the modern hat movement in Australia, where ladies parade around in extravagant hats at racing and other events.

Let’s travel a bit further east to South Korea. Artisan Yooney Choi took inspiration from the Joseon Dynasty, where the queen at the royal court wore an elaborate hairstyle called “De-su”. The royal influences are definitely portrayed elegantly in the swooping lines and delicate flowers.

OK, Australia’s having a moment here. Another hat inspired by the land down under, Wendy Scully created the “Pink Cockatoo” to reflect the stunning colours and sense of flight of the Australian Pink Cockatoo.

We couldn’t not feature a chapeau inspired by the originating country of the event: the United Kingdom. This floral piece brings us to a summer night at the Eden Project gardens… enchanting.
