Tips for Planning a Romantic Trip to London

Tips for Planning a Romantic Trip to London

While Paris might be widely renowned as the “city of love,” there are, in reality, many who find it a little (dare we say) overrated. After all, you can only go up the Eiffel Tower for the first time once and have you ever tried driving around Paris? Trust us, it’s a nightmare. There is a capital city a lot closer to home, however, (quite literally, in fact) that is steeped in history and culture and is the perfect backdrop for romance to flourish.

With its iconic landmarks, charming streets, and a plethora of cosy spots to snuggle up in, old London town offers endless opportunities for couples to explore and create memorable experiences together. But it’s not as simple as just turning up and hoping for the best.

Planning the Logistics

The journey can be a part of the whole experience. Ditch the four wheels (you don’t want to be driving into the centre of London anyway as parking is far from convenient) and take a leisurely train into London instead. Why not also consider upgrading to first-class train tickets for added comfort and privacy, making the journey as special as the destination?

When choosing where to stay, consider areas like Kensington for its elegance, Covent Garden for its lively atmosphere, or Notting Hill for its quaint charm. Each neighbourhood offers unique experiences, from luxurious short-term lets, such as the wide selection offered by UnderTheDoormat, to more intimate guesthouses and quaint AirBnB options. Whatever your budget and style.

Romantic London Activities

London is brimming with activities that can add a spark of romance to your trip and turn even the most platonic of relationships on its head.

Afternoon Tea in the Barbican Conservatory

Enjoy a quintessentially British experience surrounded by tropical plants and tranquil fishponds. Of course, the weather will play a part here but even in the depths of winter the sheer beauty of the building should be enough to win your sweetheart over.

See a West End Show

Choose from the West End’s vast array of plays and musicals for an evening of entertainment and culture that rivals the very best of Broadway. You can spend a small fortune and see a classic or take a more cost-effective gamble on something fresh.

Visit the Top of the Shard

Experience breathtaking views of the city skyline that you don’t even need to pay for (unless you decide to order a cocktail or 3) in an ideal setting for a memorable moment with your loved one.

Take a Walk around One of London’s Parks

From Hyde Park to Regents Park and every green space in between, there are dozens of incredible parks in the city that you can enjoy for nothing. There are few cities in Europe with so many large and open green spaces and each one offers something unique.

Visit a Cocktail Bar in Soho

End your day with a visit to one of Soho’s sophisticated cocktail bars, offering a chic and intimate setting. If you’re not ready for the night to end you’re in luck too, as the area is home to some of the best nightspots not only in the city but in the world!
