Exotic destinations: Singapore, my radiant orchid
Exotic destinations: Singapore, my radiant orchid
As KOKET gets ready to exhibit at the Maison & Objet show in Singapore I thought I would share my must-see list from my trip last year. This is perfect quick trip outside of the design show where you can escape into a world of exotic fantasy & luxury.

We stayed at the Ritz-Carlton which is no ordinary hotel. The massive three-ton Frank Stella installation at the entrance and the pair of Dale Chihuly crystal glass sculptures that anchor both wings of the building kick off one of Southeast Asia’s finest (and under the radar) collections of modern and contemporary art.

The majority of the pieces were specially commissioned for the public spaces and guest suites. The treasures on view include Andy Warhol and David Hockney’s exuberant colors, Rainer Gross’s geometric compositions, Henry Moore’s restrained monochromatics and the lush botanicals of Robert Zakanitch. It’s all free to view, and you even get an iPod-guided tour.
Shopping on Orchard Road1
As all a professional shopper’s I gravitated first towards the famed retail stretch of Orchard Road. You get your fix of bold-faced names like Prada, Chanel and every other couture label under the sun, but you will also experience the cleanest of streets in the world.  The floral scents are magical and the pride taken by locals is one to envy.
With the fresh scent of flowers still present in my memory and I dumped my fabulous new shoes & accessories back at the Ritz and I headed towards the real charm of Singapore lies, The National Orchid Garden’s.
One glorious garden with a multi-colored collection of 1,000 orchid species and 2,000 hybrids.

I have always been passionate about orchids but after experiencing this garden all I can say is “WOW – There is something distinctly exotic & evolved about orchids.

From the enchanting world of Orchids to the “Louis Vuitton Island Maison” Now I personally do not own a LV nor do I want one, but all hands down to the magnificent work of architect Moshe Safdie and new York-based designer Peter Marino who have collaborated to create the structure and interiors of the glass pavilion that emerges from the surrounding water.

The interior’s nautical theme is consistent with the label’s association with travel and location within the bay. Once at the bay you can head back to the KOKET booth at the Maison & Objet ASIA show.
