58th Grammy Awards 2016* Best Moments of the Night
Taylor Swift opened the Grammys with a dramatic rendition of her 1989 hit “Out of the Woods.” Swift and her 2014 album 1989 are up for seven awards at this year’s ceremony, including Album of the Year.
The multi-Grammy winner, 26 — who won two awards before the show even started — belted out her smash hit “Out of the Woods” for the star-studded crowd at the Staples Center, and wore a black catsuit covered in Swarovski crystals.
Right after a small introduction by the host LL Cool Jay, the Weekend cemented his place as 2015’s breakout star with a performance of his summer smash, Can’t Feel My Face,” followed by a powerful reworking of his latest single, “In the Night,” at the Grammy Awards.
Clad in a sharp tuxedo, the Weekend opened with an exhilarating, but truncated, performance of “Can’t Feel My Face,” before drastically changing directions for “In the Night.” Stepping off a flashing, LED-lit platform, the Weekend teamed with pianist and cellist, who helped him turn the throwback dance jam into a poignant, powerful orchestral ballad.
The show continued with a diverse array of contemporary artists took the stage at the 2016 Grammys to pay homage to the 66-year-old legend, Lionel Richie
Performing an assortment of Richie’s solo hits and his best-known songs with the Commodores, the six-song medley brought together John Legend, Demi Lovato, Luke Bryan, Meghan Trainor, Tyrese and Richie himself, who joined the crew at the end for a rousing sing-along to “All Night Long” that got everyone in the crowd clapping.
Ellie Goulding and Andra Day wowed the Los Angeles crowd with a mashup of two of their most well-known songs. The spotlight hit Day first, who opened with her 2015 song “Rise Up.” Moments later, the camera panned to Goulding, who offered a bit of her Fifty Shades of Grey anthem, “Love Me Like You Do.”
Adele’s performance at the 2016 Grammys was one of anticipated part of the show.
As we expected, the 27-year-old songstress came on and blew us away with a stunning performance of “All I Ask,” which she co-wrote with Bruno Mars (who also introduced her performance). However, something wasn’t right with the audio playback during the livestream of the performance, causing her to sound a little muted at different moments.
Kendrick Lamar brought a politically charged edge to the 2016 Grammy Awards, performing a medley of three tracks, including two from his acclaimed 2015 LP, To Pimp a Butterfly. The rapper – the event’s most nominated artist with 11 total – delivered “The Blacker the Berry” as a prisoner who breaks through his chains, then “Alright” backed by a group of African drummers and dancers. He finished by debuting an explosive new song that ended with cathartic screaming.
Justin Bieber couldn’t also miss this award show. Justin first took to the stage with his old faithful acoustic guitar and sang “Love Yourself” while wearing a leopard track jacket and backwards hat. It didn’t sound like the usual version of his mega-hit, as he gave it a smokier, lounge-like sound. But then he ended it on a powerful note by throwing his guitar off to the side before launching into “Where R Ü Now?” with Diplo and Skrillex. In addition to the two EDM stars, two violinists and a cellist joined the performance. It didn’t sound like the original, EDM-like version of the song, as Diplo and Skrillex played the drums and electric guitar (which seemed like an affordable yet powerful model), respectively, instead.
Lady Gaga performed a moving tribute to the rock icon, one of the most celebrated musicians of all time, who died at age 69 on Jan. 10.
Channeling Bowie’s glam rock alter ego Ziggy Stardust with red-orange hair, sparkling makeup, a white embellished suit, white shoes and a light pink feathered boa, Gaga sang a medley of his songs, opening with “Space Oddity.” She also performed tracks such as “Suffragette City,” “Fashion,” “Let’s Dance” and “Heroes.”
The night was filled with historical moments in the musical world and we will always remember this amazing moments.
