The Antique Source: Toma Clark Haines and The Antique's Diva Brand!
The Antique Source: Toma Clark Haines and The Antique’s Diva Brand!
Entrepreneur, writer, international speaker, global tastemaker, lifestyle consultant and founder of The Antiques Diva & Co. and TCH Collection – Toma Clark Haines is a international sensation you must get to know! Her enthusiasm and joie de vivre are infectious; her passion, drive and business savvy are inspiring; and her extensive knowledge of the global antiques market is unparalleled!
Born in Oklahoma, Toma was raised to be empowered! In an interview with the Huffington Post Toma recalls a cross stitch of her mother’s that hung in her childhood living room that read, “There are Two Lasting Gifts You Can Give To Your Children. One is Roots. The Other Wings.” She tells the Huff, “I believed I could fly.” And fly she has!
Married young, Toma moved with her husband from Pennsylvania, to Massachusetts, to Ohio, then overseas to Paris, on to Amsterdam and finally to Berlin where she currently lives, but not for long (Toma recently announced on her blog she will be moving to one of her all-time favorite places in the world – Venice!)
After moving to Paris Toma was forced to give up working when her work visa was denied, so in her usual inquisitive and all-embracing style she made it her mission to learn the ways of European life. Cooking classes at the Ritz Escoffier, French Picture Framer certification, art history lessons at the Louvre – she called this period of her life her finishing school. When her husband’s work took them to Amsterdam Toma found a wonderful little loop hole in the Dutch work visa, if she created her own company she could bypass the traditional regulations – The Antiques Diva & Co. was born!
Since its founding in 2008, The Antique’s Diva & Co. has become the world’s largest antiques buying and touring services company offering custom, private one-on-one antiques buying tours in 15 countries across Europe, Asia and America to both private individuals (tourists) and to the trade (antiques dealers and interior designers).
Toma has grown a team of over 25 locally-based guides who are experts in their local culture, language and know the best local sources for antiques in their region – whether it be a local flea market, antique warehouse, or private/by-appointment-only antique shop. Shopping tours are customized to the buyer’s budget, style and time frame – The Antique’s Diva & Co. translates, negotiates and organizes the shipping logistics to help get purchases where they need to go safely and hassle free.
If you are a trade professional you really need to check out The Antique’s Diva’s Buying Services. Can’t be there to shop in person (way less fun, but so often the case!), The Antique’s Diva & Co. team will scour their sources for your list of needs and send images with negotiated trade prices.
“More people are seeking something authentic that their neighbor doesn’t have, including the younger generations. They are looking for experiences as unique as they are,” Toma told Luxe Interior + Design magazine. In today’s shifting luxury market, The Antique’s Diva & Co. is a perfect way to offer something distinct and experiential to your design clients.
If you are heading to High Point Market 2017 this weekend be sure to attend The Antique’s Diva Early Bird Happy Hour Tour at the Antiques & Design Center on October 13th from 1-3pm.
It doesn’t stop there for this stylish superstar, Toma is an in-demand speaker and makes public appearances around the world sharing her knowledge of antiques, entrepreneurship, women in business and design trends and after High Point she will be in Savannah, GA for Southern Style Now from Nov. 9-11.
And there is more!
Coming in January 2018, Toma will be officially launching TCH Collection, her very own jewelry line. Rooted in a longtime love for jewelry the collection is based upon her many years as a traveling fashionista.
The first pieces in her line are rings – and we love Toma’s reasoning as to why, “I love earrings and necklaces – the bigger the better. But once I put them on… I never see them again. I wear them for other people to see. But when I wear rings, I personally am able to enjoy them. All day long, whether I’m driving in my car, taking notes at a meeting, working on my laptop, or simply lingering at the end of the day over a cocktail… I see my hands. I wear rings for me.”
When explaining why she decided to create TCH, Toma said, “I love my job at The Antiques Diva & Co – and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. But somehow, I want something more. Sometimes perhaps I’ve felt lost behind The Antiques Diva. The Antiques Diva is a persona, based very clearly on me and my most exaggerated traits – but The Diva is ultimately a brand. I am Toma Clark Haines.”
So, what is next for The Diva brand?!
We keep seeing social mentions of a top secret new furniture line, The Antiques Diva Collection for Aidan Gray Home, including one post on a photo shoot for it at the breathtaking Chateau de Deulin in Belgium! Although the line won’t be launched at High Point Market 2017, Toma will be in the Aidan Gray showroom from 2-4pm on Saturday October 14th, along with her Antique’s Diva Wood Wax. Yes – another perfectly suited product for Toma to have as a part of The Diva brand empire!
The Wood Wax Story: While traveling in Asia Toma discovered a wood wax manufacturer (we don’t know any more details than this but knowing Toma I am sure there must be a great story here). In collaboration with the manufacturer she designed a custom all-natural, clear wood wax paste scented with lavender. The essential tool to add life to, and protect your most treasured wood and leather products.
We are huge fans of Toma personally and are continually inspired by her accomplishments as a fellow female entrepreneur – a women empowerment icon for sure!
Wondering how she does it all?
According to Toma, “Success comes to those who are willing to first take a step forward. Success stays with those who keep stepping forward every day.”
And may we add that these steps should be made with a champagne glass in hand, a radiant smile and a fabulous pair of stilettos if you want to succeed Diva style!
