Top 5 Trends from Milan Fashion Week Fall 2018
Milan Fashion Week Fall 2018 gave us spectacular shows, fabulous new fashion, and daring trends. The top Italian brands really focused on putting on a spectacle, enhancing the run-of-the-mill runway to be something more. These exciting and new collections were accentuated with crazy out-there accessories, immersive sets, and artistic creations. Some brands even went surrealist – see recaps of the Gucci runway where models strutted their stuff while carrying lifelike replicas of their own heads and baby dragons! Though the brands all created unique and vastly different collections, there were many similar themes running through the runways this year. Let’s delve into the top 5 trends from Milan Fashion Week!

Bold Patterns
Bold patterns dominated the runways this year, and are becoming popular on the streets too. Prada and Versace flaunted loud plaids, while Dolce & Gabbana had a myriad of clashing patterns – houndstooth, animal prints and floral decoratifs galore. Expect to see lots of big prints in stores soon.

Feminine Menswear
Separates are having a moment right now. Menswear with feminine accents were big on the runways, Salvatore Ferragamo showed off beautifully tailored blazers and jackets while Giorgio Armani showed off chic separates in a hue of gray tones.

Lots of Layers
Layers, layers, layers! Though designers layer things we probably wouldn’t even dream of wearing together, it works. Let’s all take some inspiration from them to be more daring with our choices. Missoni & Tod’s most expertly layered clothes with a variety of colors and textures and managed to pull them off effortlessly.

Vivid Colors
We love designers who aren’t afraid to get LOUD with their colors. Expect this trend to trickle down to the shops- lots of highlighter brights in pinks, greens and yellows. Look to Moschino and Prada for examples of these bold choices.

Mixing Textures
Satins, plush furs, velvets, leathers, wools- the list goes on. Designers chose to mix and match these textures to create visual interest and new combinations. Missoni played with a lot of rich, tactile fabrics while Philosophy Di Lorenzo Serafini displayed a mix of sheer, shiny, and soft!
