Maison Sarah Lavoine opened its doors in 2002. It has grown to encompass all of Lavoine’s passions: interior design projects, a line of furniture, kitchenware, decorative items, and even clothing. When asked about her design process Lavoine stated, in an interview with Moda Familia, that “I like to think I use similar principles when it comes to my interior design as I do when I dress myself. Firstly, to never look vulgar; secondly, never work the total look; and finally, know how to mix and combine different items.”

This explains Lavoine’s naturally eclectic and versatile style. She takes inspirations from her surroundings and her travels. Mediterranean, African, and Asian aesthetics all appeal to Lavoine and you can see subtle reflections from each of these destinations throughout her designs. Her biggest pet peeve is when a room is purely one style. She suggests that it is unnatural and not representative of a real life full of a variety of experiences.

It’s this taste for variety that makes Lavoine so appealing and multifaceted, earning her feature in Love Happens Top Interior Designers. Her versatility has landed her a range of exciting interior design projects. One of the most recent projects has been remodeling the L’Oreal offices situated along the Seine in Paris. With over 45,000 square meters to design, Lavoine approached the project as she would a residential property. She wanted the space to feel like a home for the nearly 2,500 employees that work their everyday. Consequently, the result is a beautiful space full of modern charm that encourages relaxation without any of the unnecessary distractions.

Growing up, both of her parents were very prominent members of Parisian culture. Her father was Chief Editor of Vogue and her mother an interior decorator. It’s easy to see her upbringing in her aesthetic as well as her approach. Lavoine indicates that her mother was strict growing up which made her disciplined with her work; however, her artistic nature came from her father’s love of art and culture. These two opposing natures combine in Lavoine in a very harmonious way. As a result, her work is strong and intentional, yet not without bold splashes of color or interesting statement pieces intermingled for a holistic feel.

Holistic could be the word to describe Lavoine and her interior design studio, Maison Sarah Lavoine. Her brand is a lifestyle and she pursues a sense of genuineness in her designs that is refreshing. A Lavoine space is just as livable as it is chic and just as exciting as it is subdued. Finally, in Lavoine’s own words, she is our “coup de coeur”.
