Karl Lagerfeld Joins the World of Interior Design

Joining the likes of Gucci, Ralph Lauren, and Fendi, Karl Lagerfeld has spectacularly sculpted crisp pieces of marble furniture making him the newest addition in the group of designers who have taken their brilliance from the fashion design world and translated it into the world of interior design. This brilliant collection of functional sculptures debuted in an exhibition titles Architectures on October 19th at Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris and will remain on display through December 22, 2018. If you will be in Paris this Fall this is a must see!

Teaming up with architect and interior designer Aline Asmar d’Amman, the man behind Culture in Architecture, a design studio based in Beirut and Paris, with international projects ranging from high end residential to luxury hospitality and bespoke furniture, Karl Lagerfeld took inspiration from the perfect ratio and ancient Greek architecture, a period which he particularly admires, to produce a magnificent monochromatic line of marble furniture. Through the range of lamps, tables, fountains, mirrors and more Karl Lagerfeld states that this collection of furniture is meant to highlight the beauty of the material. All of his pieces are made of Arabescato Fantastico and Black Nero Marquina, two of the rarest of marbles. Nero Marquina marble is a deep black with thin strokes of white and Arabescato is a brilliant white with dark gray veins. Arabescato Fantastico is exceptionally rare and was not quarried for 30 years before Karl Lagerfeld awoke it with his golden touch.


Lagerfeld elegantly contrasts contemporary with classic through these black and white marble sculptures and is currently displaying them in the Carpenters Workshop Gallery in Paris. Each magnificent limited edition work in the Architectures collection stays true to Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s “passion for blurring the boundaries between contrasting disciplines of creativity, art, design, and fashion.” Lagerfeld often states that he loves things that aren’t planned, and has displayed through these pieces of designer furniture his doctrine of improvisation leads to pure class.
