Marc Ange Turns 'Le Refuge' Gold for Dubai Design Week

Marc Ange Turns ‘Le Refuge’ Gold for Dubai Design Week
Known for his highly “Instagrammable” designs and business of proliferating fantasy, French-Italian designer Marc Ange is a true creative genius. Once again Marc Ange will showcase his imagination and creativity at the 2018 edition of Dubai Design Week where a reinterpretation of his renowned installation ‘Le Refuge’ will appear in gold as one of the key show highlights.
Designed for LJ Edition, the golden edition of ‘Le Refuge’, a giant artful day bed, will sit for the duration of Downtown Design, from November 13-16, on the fair’s waterfront terrace set on Dubai Creek in Dubai Design District.

Composed of soft foam cushions resting on a green marble base surrounded by large gold-plated leaves creating shade from the atop the long stems which support them, ‘Le Refuge’ serves as a place for people to sit and dream. The refuge created by this masterful outdoor installation is not just from the scorching sun, but also from reality, a place to escape for a while entering the world of Marc Ange’s imagination, a world of fantasy.
The first edition of Marc’s ‘Le Refuge’ daybed, inspired by his childhood dreams and his life in California, was created in baby pink upon a teak wood base. The installation, presented in collaboration with Wallpaper magazine at Milan Design Week in 2017, was the first piece in Marc’s Le Refuge collection and instantly went viral on Instagram!
The installation appeared again perched atop a giant marble tower at Design Miami 2017 outside the Faena Hotel. During this fantastical beach front appearance, ‘Le Refuge’ took on a different mood. The daybed seemed somewhat uninviting this time, up in the sky with spider-like armchairs, ‘Les Araignées’ designed by Marc for LJ Edtion, surrounding its base.
Born in Rome, raised in Paris and currently based in LA, Marc Ange’s creations often address the mysterious gaps between real and unreal, perfection and mistake, harmony and chance. His designs include objects for high-end luxury brands, furniture pieces, cars and interiors and often try to access the subconscious of his audiences.
Marc’s studio, Bloom Room, with locations in France and LA, is one of the most sought-after design agencies. The firm operates without any industry boundaries, “only specializing in the creation of the extraordinary…” Among Bloom Room’s clients are worldwide brands like Jean Paul Gaultier, Prada, Louis Vuitton, Ferrari, Moet et Chandon, and Orient Express.
If you are planning to visit Downtown Design during Dubai Design Week be sure to take pause at Marc Ange’s golden ‘Le Refuge’. Without a doubt, light and shadow come to life in front of Dubai’s iconic skyline, further enhancing the fantastical possibilities that Marc Ange had in mind for his piece!
