Nordelaia, An Italian Design Hotel by Rose Murray

In 2020, a beautiful 12-bedroom boutique hotel in the Montserrat area of Piedmont, Italy, opened its doors. Unveiling Nordelaia, a stunning design by the UK-based Rose Murray, founder of These White Walls. Absolutely somewhere we want to retreat to!
A ‘Rustic-luxe’ Design Retreat
Set on five hectares of open land in wine country sits an 800-year-old farmhouse transformed into a design retreat. “Our design for Nordelaia is centered around wellbeing and escapism; the aim being to create a holistic and nurturing environment in which guests can relax, switch off and connect not only with each other but also with the stunning landscape that surrounds them,” says Rose Murray.

Working alongside each other, local architects Tunesi Studio Genova and Rose Murray thoughtfully turned the farmhouse into guestrooms and a spa. In addition, they built added a striking building to house Nordelaia’s dining and event spaces. Rose defines the design “as ‘rustic-luxe,’ where rest and reconnection with nature go hand-in-hand with cultivated indulgence.”

Inside Nordelaia
On the ground floor of the addition is a relaxed Bistro offering all-day dining with a focus on Piedmontese ingredients.

While on the second floor, L’Orto offers an innovative fine dining culinary experience from Michelin-starred Chef Andrea Ribaldone.

Each of the 12 individually designed guestrooms has a distinctive aesthetic that celebrates Italian heritage and local craftsmanship.

Ground floor ‘Garden’ rooms have direct access to ornamental gardens and feature textured materials, including rustic woods, natural stone burnished metals, and wrought iron.
These sit in contrast to the ‘Legacy’ rooms on the second floor that have a more dramatic feel with luxurious materials such as velvet and brass.

Further tucked away at the top of the building are the cozy and wonderfully private Attico Suites.

There are no televisions in guestrooms to encourage guests to enjoy a digital detox, and various rooms feature Devon & Devon freestanding bathtubs, four-poster beds, private terraces, or a ‘Yours & Mine’ layout, where each guest has their own wardrobe, desk, and chair.
Placing importance on a slower pace of life, the spa at Nordelaia is 450 square meters and set in the vaults of the building with views across the valleys of Montferrat, inviting in the healing powers of nature.
