El Hierro

The youngest and most primitive island, El Hierro, is rocky, isolated, and dotted with volcanic craters. It was formerly thought to be the last segment of the earth. The silvery-trunked juniper trees that grow in strange, twisted shapes at El Sabinar, a lonely expanse of shoreline, are an exceptional sight here, brought about by the constant and occasionally severe trade winds. Port of El Hierro, a little town around 10 kilometers from the minor hub of Valverde hamlet, is where visiting ships port.
