Heartfelt Design with Melinda Trembly of Rincon Rd.

Rincon Rd. is an interior design studio and lifestyle brand based in Carpinteria, California. Founder Melinda Trembly is the creative force behind the studio and a lifetime lover of art and design. A born-and-raised Golden State girl, Melinda lives on her family’s avocado farm, where she spent her childhood.

She grew up traveling with her parents, attending horse shows around the country, and enjoying adventures off the beaten path. Her strong connection to her family history and traditions inspires her love for down-home, heartfelt designs that celebrate a slower pace of life, intended to be savored like a glass of iced tea on a warm summer evening.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts in Interior Design, Melinda worked for architecture and design firms in Santa Barbara before founding her own in 2009. Along with her line of handprinted home goods, Rincon Rd. is the culmination of a lifelong love of the beauty of “home” and everything it holds.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

A perfectly balanced life—I’m trying to say that without laughing! It feels like the unicorn I’m continuously chasing. But honestly, I love my family and I love what I do for a living. Both bring me joy and a sense of accomplishment. Perfect happiness comes when both of those worlds are in harmony.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

Being a mother. It wasn’t an easy road for me to become a mother, and it’s never easy being a mother. I’m so beyond proud of the strong and determined individuals my children are becoming. Watching them fail and learn and grow as they chase their dreams inspires me to be better every day.

What profession does your alter ego have?

She is Editor-in-Chief of Vogue, a real badass!

The project you will never forget.

Summit Lane, I learned so much about client management and communication. A successful design is when we can give our clients what they didn’t know was possible. Getting those ideas out of a client can be hard when they don’t know exactly what it is they want until they see it.

Your favorite business tool or resource.

My team! We are only as good as the people we surround ourselves with.

The most timeless design.

Surround yourself with things you love and that bring you joy, don’t follow the trends, and be true to yourself; design is a celebration of your life.

The biggest design faux pas.

Following trends.

Your design motto.

Slow down, enjoy the process.

If you were to design a room around one KOKET piece, which would it be, and why?

The Nahema Chair. I love the modern classic lines, and the hand detail is such a great conversation starter.

Love happens when…

…someone knows you better than you know yourself, and they love you anyway.
