As my June birthstone, pearls have always held a special place in my jewelry collection. However, this association aside, my real love of pearls runs much deeper. Simple yet bold. Silky smooth perfection or abstract imperfection. Brilliant white or black as night. The endless shapes, textures, and colors of pearls and their mollusk creators make it a truly exquisite material. My love for pearls also goes beyond just jewelry; pearls in all forms of fashion, from shoes and purses to dresses, yes, please. Then there is mother-of-pearl, also known as nacre, a material I adore in every application I have ever witnessed it in, especially in home decor. Considered one of nature’s toughest materials, the beauty and power of mother-of-pearl bring a symbolic layer to pearls that makes me love them even more.
