L’AND Vineyards, an Exclusive Wine Retreat
More than a hotel, L’AND Vineyards is an exclusive retreat with 32 Suites and Pool Villas set in the heart of Portugal’s Alentejo region. Looking towards the skyline of the medieval Montemor Castle, L’AND Vineyards blends modern architecture with nature, integrating art, landscape, local crafts, sound, and scent to create an atmosphere of tranquility where guests can feel at home and revitalize.
Alongside a perfectly integrated architectural project by Promontório, interior designs by the ultra-talented Brazilian architect Márcio Kogan draw on local handcrafts—hand-woven striped rugs from nearby Reguengos de Monsaraz, black slate floors, and eucalyptus wood—to create a hotel with a real sense of place. Design elements are also central to the resort’s DNA, with lights by Tom Dixon, chairs by John Serodio, ethereal artwork by Michael Biberstein, and bespoke wooden pieces by George Nakashima meticulously placed around the hotel.
Wine and wine culture are at the root of L’AND vineyards’ identity. Six hectares of vineyards surround the resort. Land composed of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Alicante Bouschet, and Syrah red grape varieties and Gouveio white grape varieties. The vineyard is also organic, respecting biodiversity and the terroir’s potential. Guests at L’AND can immerse themselves in a wide range of wine-related experiences.
Stunning Suites & Villas
Each of L’AND’s Suites and Pool Villas is distinct in its own way. One of our favorites is the Sky View Suites. These provide a unique experience of sleeping “under the starry sky of Alentejo”. An experience enjoyed through the opening of the bedroom ceiling. Add in outdoor patios, fireplaces, and a private plunge pool, and we love this suite even more! From luxury villas to stylish suites, the decor of each space provides a lavish atmosphere. All with a mix of simplicity and small details to catch the eye of its guests.
Wine
L’AND Vineyards’ mission is to grasp the true identity of wine culture through Portuguese heritage. The grounds are surrounded by six hectares of vineyards. The wondrous landscape is truly enchanting. Guests emerge themselves in the vineyards with courses about the grape varieties and production of the making of wine, along with wine-tasting sessions.
The vineyard also provides an enjoyable “make your own wine” activity. A memorable experience that allows guests to learn about the Alentejo wine grape varieties and create their own personalized wine in the L’AND winery. The experience includes learning about the enological characteristics of each type of grape. Then experimenting with different blends to create a wine that truly reflects your enological taste. Just what you are looking for in your glass.
Restaurant Viajante
Since its origins in 2011, the L’AND Vineyards restaurant has been based on a gastronomic concept that aims to value local culture, which results from history and the journey of the Portuguese around the world. In 2023, with a newly restructured team and in a renovated space, Viajante becomes the gastronomic brand of L’AND.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, the lighting created by Tom Dixon will captivate you and leave you wanting to know more about what the restaurant will bring to you throughout the night.
Restaurant Viajante expresses the flavors and spices of Portuguese heritage. Chef Nuno Amaral is very talented in his craft. He curates each dish to be inspired by the Portuguese maritime exploration of Eastern destinations and delicacies. Each bite you consume will leave a mark on you and leave you wanting more.
There is also a perfect harmony between gastronomy and wine at L’AND. As the great sommelier, Gonçalo Mendes, suggests typical and locally produced organic wines fermented exclusively from natural products.
Along with the flavorsome dishes, the room itself leaves a big impression. An interior with glamor, coziness, and elegance with a view of the lake and land for pleasure.
The Vinothérapie Spa by Vinoble
In the heart of the vineyards sits the Vinothérapie Spa by renowned Austrian vegan brand Vinoble Cosmetics, which focuses on high-quality care products for the face and body as well as sustainability.
Covering an area of 800m2, the Vinothérapie Spa by Vinoble is a tranquil sanctuary of relaxation and rejuvenation. Designed by Márcio Kogan, the spa interior is a symphony of natural effects. The warmth of wood and the contrasting elegance of the stone effect create a serene environment.
The Vinoble Spa treatments use wine by-products like grapes, seeds, skins, pulp, and stems to provide exceptional face and body rituals and massages that are completely unique. We highly recommend the 80-minute signature spa treatment during your stay that provides a relaxing and soothing experience with grape-infused treatments and massages. The infusion of Alentejo spices and dry fruits mixed with a lavender scent made this moment a truly refreshing luxury experience.
The spa is complemented by an indoor heated pool (adults-only), sauna, hammam, and treatment rooms suitable for personalized sessions of treatment and relaxation.
