Places to Go After the Prom: A Guide

Once the last song of the night is done reverberating through the ears and the prom finally starts to wind down, many of its participants want to keep the magic going further into the night. Many prom-goers will choose to continue the fun off-campus to maximize the experience of one of the most special nights in a high schooler’s tenure. Here is a list of safe and fun after-prom activities to partake in once the last dance has come to an end.
Campfires and the Great Outdoors
It might seem a strange place to venture to after such a regal night, but having a huge campfire get-together after the prom could be a shift in perspectives but still quite festive. Crisp air and nighttime ambiance make quite a magical combination, especially in the right locales.
There’s nothing quite like sharing stories around a communal fire underneath the stars. This sort of atmosphere can only enhance the whimsy of this big night in a young person’s life.
Late-Night Movie Meetup
Proms can be intense affairs. There’s potential for a lot of stress prior to the big event, not to mention being fatigued after quite literally dancing the night away. Why not take a load off once the night is said and done?
All you need for this after-prom event is an agreed-upon location, assorted snacks, and a Netflix account. It’s low-cost, relaxing, and a fantastic way to end one’s prom experience. Having a quick-access place to catch some sleep is just icing on the cake.
The Local Fair
This is more dependent on your location than anything else, as carnivals and fairs vary depending on where you live. That said, if it is carnival season then it is a fantastic opportunity to take advantage of after the prom.
Lots of silly fun can be had on rides and stuffing yourself with cotton candy and funnel cakes. It’s a laid-back yet thrilling environment to find yourself in after the prom. Just be sure to not eat too much before going on any of the more intense rides.
Mini Golf Madness
While it may seem like a strange thing to partake in after such an emotionally charged night, mini-golf might just be what is needed to relax hearts and minds accordingly.
It might be difficult to find a mini-golf establishment that wants to stay open after standard operating hours, but it’s well worth it. Making long-lasting memories in between tees sounds silly, but the fun nighttime atmosphere always wins out in the end.
Bowling: A Trusted Favorite
Bowling is a classic after-prom activity. There’s nothing like letting off even more energy from the exciting night competing for points against your friends. While you might be a bit tired after the prom, there’s nothing too strenuous about bowling. You can be as competitive or as laid-back as you want, the goal here is to keep the party rolling after the big event has finally settled down.
Most bowling alleys are open at later hours, so they are a perfect after-prom getaway. Waiting in between rounds is a great way to keep fun conversations going well into the night, creating even more positive memories down the line.
Skating Rinks: Another Trusted Favorite
It’s another classic after-prom experience. Most skating rinks are open until late hours, which is perfect for your needs.
Additionally, their large size allows them to have multiple individuals present. So, if you want to throw a huge gathering after the prom, a skating rink is a prime spot to do so. It’s inexpensive, fun, and such a classic place to have a party that you simply can’t go wrong when choosing it as your post-prom party spot.
Another possibility here is visiting an ice skating rink, if your local area has one. The “winter wonderland” aspect of going ice skating is a cool and relaxed way to end the night regardless if you’ve been to a prom or not.
Go Retro With a Visit to a Local Diner
They are getting harder to find nowadays, but if there’s a stellar all-hours diner in your local area that you can head to after the prom, then consider hosting a get-together there afterward. It’s classic, comfortable, and affordable. Plus you’re bound to have worked up a killer appetite after burning all of those calories on the dance floor for the past few hours.
A good tactic is to call up the diner in question before the big night and see if they can accommodate your group. Seating may be limited, especially if they are busier during later hours. Also, if you don’t have a specific diner that fits the all-hours theme, then there’s always Waffle House or IHOP!
Go Out Big: Plan a Cruise Getaway
This is definitely one of the more expensive options on the list, but boarding a cruise is a truly amazing way to end prom night. It allows you to go from one whimsical location to another, which will not only make you and your crew the talk of the town but also can be the source of many incredible memories to be savored for years to come.
Let’s just say you can’t go the distance and afford an expensive cruise. That’s completely fine. Another low-cost but similar option is to rent out a sizable boat so you can create your own mini “cruise” getaway to escape to once the prom starts to die down for the night.
