Walk For Her With PAWEA
Take a stand by taking a walk
Did you know that in Portugal there are around 6,000 new cases of breast cancer every year? With this front of mind, the Portuguese American Women’s Empowerment Alliance (PAWEA) decided to run (or walk) 6,000 km to raise awareness of the various risk factors, both genetic and lifestyle-related as well preventative measures. Most importantly, PAWEA wants to help local organizations provide support to women who are undergoing treatment.
PAWEA partnered with ABCGlobalAlliance to raise awareness of Breast Cancer during the month of October, to help support women affected by it, and to shed new light on issues that are often overlooked, such as:
- the impact of Covid in cancer screening and treatment;
- genetic testing for cancer prevention;
- cancer holistic treatments;
- labor laws and policies that impact cancer patients.
All funds raised will revert to two Portuguese organizations working directly to support women affected by breast cancer: Mama Help, providing a framework for treatment for every stage of the disease since diagnosis, and Evita, who works with research and genetic testing to prevent breast cancer, as well as psychological support.
During the month of October, help PAWEA walk the walk!
